Get Back to Your Saved Screenshots and Videos
Screenshots, recipes, downloaded clips, all saved for later. How to sort screenshots on iPhone and return to saved things on time, not three years on.
How do you sort screenshots on your iPhone and get back to what you saved “for later”? Under every useful short video, people joke: “Save it to never watch it.” It is funny because it is true.
At night, half asleep, you see a recipe, a back exercise, a tip for cleaning a pan. It seems important. You tap “save.” The clip goes into the phone, and you never see it again.
Why saved things get lost
It went like that for me for years. Downloaded clips, pictures, screenshots of interesting topics, photos of posters, recipes, renovation ideas. All of it falls into the common gallery, between photos of the kids and the vacation. And sinks.
The problem is not that we are lazy. A gallery is made for storing, not for coming back. To see the back-exercise clip again, you have to remember it exists and scroll through half a year of life to reach it. Nobody does that.
Where should you save recipes and screenshots?
In a separate place that does not mix with your life. In Spohad that is the Recall catalog. Not Memories, where people and events live, but this: recipes, receipts, screenshots, saved clips, ideas. Everything that ended up on the phone not for memory but for a purpose.
In the feed it is one swipe right. The back-exercise clip went to Recall. The vacation photo goes left, to Memories. They no longer get in each other’s way. Inside Recall you can make your own folders: “Recipes,” “Back,” “Renovation.” How to separate work from personal the same way is in Keep work apart from life.
Coming back to saved things on time
The point of Recall is that you come back to it. For each card there you can choose how often to show it: every day, once a week, once a month, by a certain date, or “don’t know,” or never again.
- A back exercise: every day, until it becomes a habit.
- A recipe: once a week, until you cook it.
- A screenshot of an exhibition: by a date, and the phone itself reminds you when the time comes.
And when you open Recall, it is a feed again. A downloaded vertical clip plays on the full screen, the same as when you first saw it. You are not just rewatching; you are coming back to it for the reason you saved it.
Won’t this flood you with notifications?
No. The “every day,” “once a week” and “once a month” rhythms work inside the app: such cards simply appear more often in the Recall feed. A notification reaches your screen only when you have chosen “by a date” yourself. And if you looked at the card before its time, the reminder cancels itself.
Why saved things age, and why that is right
Memories and Recall run on different time. Memories only become more precious over the years: a photo twenty years old is worth more than yesterday’s. Saved things are the opposite: a screenshot that mattered a week ago is of no use to anyone a quarter later.
Spohad shows this. In the Recall feed the frame’s value star fades over time: a week, a month, a quarter after you put it there. It is a quiet sign: you haven’t come back to this for a long time. The stars themselves never disappear; only how the frame looks changes.
Wrote it down, deleted it
When you have finally done what you saved something for (copied out the recipe, learned the exercise, gone to the exhibition), you can let the clip go. Swipe to the Trash. It has done its job.
The deletion does not happen that second. The decision waits with the others until you press Save. Changed your mind? Undo it.
That way Recall stops being a dump of good intentions. It becomes a to-do list that reminds you of itself and gets shorter by itself.
Quick guide: how to sort screenshots and saved things
- Open Sort in Spohad and scroll the feed.
- Send screenshots, recipes and “for later” clips right with a swipe, into Recall.
- For important cards choose a rhythm: every day, once a week, once a month, or by a date.
- Come back to Recall as to a feed; the cards surface on their own by rhythm.
- Did what you saved it for? Swipe to the Trash and press Save.
If you save posts from messengers into your saved-messages chat, there is a shorter route for them: read Instead of a thousand reposts. And what such a feed looks like you can see on the home page.
